How to Taste Wine Like A Sommelier

April 15, 2021 @ 6:00 pm

You’ve been enjoying wine with friends and family for years- now learn how to taste like a professional! Join us for an interactive session with WSET-certified sommelier, Ellen Crivella, to learn about the systematic approach tasting, which is used by sommeliers around the world to evaluate wine quality.

We will discuss the major components of wine sensory evaluation and build your lexicon of aroma and flavors terms. This training is inclusive to both those drinking wine or staying dry. Please bring a beverage of your choice (preferably one that is not carbonated if you are not drinking wine) and get ready to learn more about assessing a wine’s appearance, nose, palate, and quality.

Sommelier/PDX Board Member Bio: Ellen Crivella is a level 2 WSET-certified sommelier and a student in the UC Davis winemaking program. Having been raised by Italian parents, she has always had a passion for exploring the sensory experiences associated with food and beverages. She loves a good Loire cab franc and can’t think of a better evening than with a glass of racy Riesling and a good book. Ellen graduated with her BS from the School of Environment and Natural Resources in 2003, and with her MS in 2006.
